Sickles of the Duraton Segovia
Spring is an ideal season to explore the fantastic natural landscapes of our country. And it is that, as we have already told you on numerous occasions, Spain it has nothing to envy to other countries in terms of nature.

The Hayedo de Montejo in Madrid, the Selva de Irati in Navarra, the Sierra de la Demanda in Burgos or the Lagos de Covadonga in Asturias are some of the places worth visiting in our country that we have already discussed in Hard Hobbit To Break, but, as you can imagine, we still have many natural places to show you. Today, for example, we are going to Castilla y León to talk to you about Hoces del Duratón River Natural Park, located in the northeast of Segovia. Do you want to join us? We assure you that you will not regret it!

A place of immense beauty

The Natural Park of the Hoces del Río Duratón is located downstream from the town of Sepúlveda, extending through the municipalities of Sepúlveda, Sebúlcor and Carrascal del Río. As you can see in the images that we offer you in the gallery, it is a deep canyon through which the river runs Duraton. At some points, the limestone escarpments reach 100 meters in height. Without a doubt, this natural site stands out for its immense beauty, with the contrast of the ocher of the rocks with the green of the riverside vegetation. You can visit this place from above, bordering the abyss, or from below following the course of the river.

Wildlife

Another of the wonders of this natural site is its fauna, especially in regard to birds. And it is that to contemplate the sickles while the eagles, the peregrine falcons and the griffon vultures fly over the place is a experience only. In addition, the park has the presence of buzzards, kestrels, eagle owls, jackdaws, red-billed chub, vultures, wagtails, nightingales, rockers, collalbas, charcoal, shrike, warbler and scribes. As for mammals, we can see badgers, marten, foxes, hares, rabbits, weasels, otters, bats and small mammals. On the other hand, the presence of stair snakes, viper snakes, bastard snakes, ocellated lizards, long-tailed lizards, common frogs, midwife toads, common toads, carps and Iberian barbels stands out.

Flora

Of course, the flora of the place is also remarkable, being able to divide the space into four zones: the moorland, with juniper junipers, junipers, thyme and pseudo-steppe; the upper area, where pine forests can be found; cut with rupicolous communities; and the bottom of the valley, with remains of riverside forest, where you can find ash, willow, poplar, alder, poplar, elm and different types of scrub.

Historical importance

In addition to being a place of immense beauty, this natural park stands out for its importance archaeological and historical. And it is that in the area you can find caves with engravings from the Bronze Age, the architectural complex of Sepúlveda and the hermitage of San Frutos, which is accessed through a stone bridge. It is a 12th century Romanesque construction of great beauty from which you can also access a cemetery with early medieval anthropomorphic tombs. On the other hand, you should bear in mind that the park has a place for visitors. This is the Casa del Parque, where activities and initiatives of the region are announced, as well as information of interest.
