Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture
This impressive tower has been designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Smith was also the main architect of the building Burj Khalifa, when I worked for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, SOM.
$ 1.2 billion
Although the idea of reaching a height of 1,600 meters was considered in the initial project, it was later specified that the building would reach the figure of 1 kilometer. The Kingdom Tower will cost some 1,200 million dollars, a figure that can change as the work progresses, which could take about 63 months of work. Behind all this project is the Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal, nephew of Saudi King Abdullah and one of the world's leading investors.
Inspired by desert leaves
The Kingdom Tower will house a hotel, apartments, offices and, logically, the highest viewpoint on the planet. As for the design, it is inspired by the folds of the leaves of the vegetation desert. In addition, it is known that the building will have a high-performance exterior wall in order to reduce energy consumption and that on each side there will be large shaded terraces with views of the city and the Red Sea.
We are looking forward to seeing the building finalized. You do not?
