For its architectural charm, its archaeological wealth and cultural, and because it remains relatively safe from mass tourism, Oristano can become the perfect alternative if you want to travel to the island in summer, when it is most crowded with visitors. We tell you some things that may interest you.

Art and culture

Losing a few days in Sardinia is a luxury, also in the middle of summer. However, it is necessary to reflect to choose the place with success, since during the high season many tourists visit the island. Choosing one place or another can be the key to the success of our vacation.

Oristano is located in the center of the island, at the height of the Sinis peninsula. It is at the northern end of the Campidano plain, surrounded by lagoons and close to the sea, so you can go to the beach, which is a point in its favor since the beaches and coves of Sardinia are really worth it. It is a fairly large city, which holds the title of Ceramic City, because this craft is very typical there.

At the heart of the city is the Piazza Roma, in which stands the medieval Torre di Mariano II, one of the remains of the city walls, destroyed in the late 19th century. A visit to the archaeological museum is worth it Antiquarium Arborense, which holds true prehistoric treasures. You should also not stop visiting the Duomo, the largest cathedral in Sardinia, founded in the 12th century and rebuilt in the 18th (hence its Baroque style). Its dome defines Oristano's profile.
