It is not surprising that this small corner of the Mediterranean has for decades attracted the cream of society: Hollywood actors and actresses (Humphrey Bogart and Greta Garbo were regulars of the place) displayed their glamor, and great writers and playwrights were inspired by this beautiful land (Henrik Ibsen wrote his famous "Dollhouse" there).
