Malta was a magnet for settlers thanks to its location, being one of the main shipping routes since the beginning of time. Thanks to the large amount of architecture and artifacts from different periods, this museum originated, in which a large number of prehistoric elements are exhibited. The museum is in Valletta, the capital of the island and belonging to the province of Auberge.
The museum
It is located in a building of rococo style it was rebuilt by the Knights of Malta in 1571, being designed by the local architect Gerolamo Cassar, who was also the one who designed the most important buildings at the beginning of the city of Valletta. On the first floor is the room that the Knights used for business meetings, and also another room where banquets were held at the time.
In the main room It is where there are more elements, such as animal sculptures, human figures and temple models. Among all this, the "Sleeping Lady" and the "Venus of Malta" stand out, in addition to the temples of Tarxien, which is a megalithic complex that was built in 2800 BC.
Hours and tickets
It is open from Monday to Sunday, with the exception of Good Friday, several days in December (24, 25 and 31) and January 1. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and tickets cost 5 euros for adults and children over 5 years old. Minors of that age have free entry.
