The spectacular Quilotoa lagoon in Ecuador

Last weekend I was watching a travel program and discovered a natural place that seems really spectacular to me. It's about the Quilotoa lagoon and it's in Ecuador, specifically in the Ecuadorian Andes. In recent years it has become one of the most important tourist attractions in the country, and it is that everyone who visits it does not stop recommending it to everyone they know. It is a place that is really worth visiting.

It is a place that amazes for the immensity of its waters and for the beauty of the environment, which forms a lagoon that looks like a pool and that it has an impressive spectacularity. This lagoon is about 60 kilometers from Latacunga and less than 20 from a small town called Aumbahua, also having a height of 3,800 meters above sea level. It is within the Los Ilinizas Ecological Reserve, one of the most beautiful in the country.

The Quilotoa lagoon has 3 kilometers in diameter and a depth of almost 250 meters, having a crater of the Quilotoa volcano and that is on the slope of the Toachi river. The lagoon water contains various minerals that make it emerald green so beautiful and depending on the time of year it can turn bluish or even yellow. The water temperature is between 16 and -1ºC, and it is not suitable for consumption.

In addition to the beauty of the lagoon, in its surroundings there are very interesting things, such as the possibility of seeing animals such as foxes, deer, rabbits, wasteland wolves, sheep or cervicabras. In addition, in the landscape you can also see several crops, pastures and some truly spectacular mountainous areas. An incredible place where you will enjoy a landscape without equal.
