The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden in Mauritius

Although in the Mauritius the main destination is its paradisiacal beaches, it has other places of interest that are worth visiting, especially the natural places since they are of great beauty. One of the most spectacular is the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, where you will discover the most beautiful and striking plant species on the islands.

This garden is also called Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolan and it is north of Mauritius itself, near a city called Sant Louis. It is worth reserving a day or a half to go visit it as it will be a unique experience. In addition to having many local species, it also has many others from different countries that adapt perfectly to the climate of the area. That makes this one of the most important botanical gardens in the world.

At the garden entrance there is an avenue in which there are some of the most important plants, such as the famous baobab palm trees and latania. In total there are about 600 species of trees and another 600, more or less, of plants and flowers, all distributed in an area of about 25 hectaresSo the venue is spectacular. There are also some animals in the park, especially deer and turtles.

In addition to plants and various plant and animal species, you will also find colonial houses, like the Mon Plaisir, which was the residence of some of the governors of Mauritius. There is also a pond where you can see giant water lilies or the talipot flowers, who live for about 40 years and only bloom once in their lives. To make your visit you can hire a guide to explain everything, although it will be more expensive. If you have time and you manage well in these places, the ideal is to go a whole day and see everything on your own.
