The Castalla Castle in Alicante

The castles They are one of the great attractions that you can find in many places in the world, also being the most visited places since millions of people have great admiration for this type of fortress. In our country you can find many in all the Autonomous Communities, and today I would like to write about one of the most beautiful that I have seen and that I have discovered thanks to a trip by a relative to Alicante.

Its about Castalla Castle, which is in the Alicante municipality of Castalla, a place with a lot of charm and far from the hustle and bustle of other more touristy places like Benidorm. The perfect place to spend a quiet day and it is only half an hour from the Alicante coast. This castle is located on a hill almost 800 meters high and helps form one of the most beautiful places in the province of Alicante.

It was built in the Eleventh century although several reconstructions were carried out between the 14th and 16th centuries and today it is preserved in perfect condition, with spectacular walls, its famous tower of tribute, the palace, various outbuildings, cisterns and some more towers. The part of the palace was built when the reconstructions were made and it houses the Prima Tower and the Guard Corps, and the last to be built was the Torre del Homenaje.

Inside the castle there are several Almohad dependencies, a cistern and a parade ground, all from the 12th and 13th centuries. Visits can be made from Tuesday to Friday at 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30 p.m. Must book the appointment previously since they will not let you in if you go with her (you can do it on the phone 966-561018). Visits during the week start from the Tourist Office and those on weekends from the Ermita de la Sangre. Entry costs € 3 for adults and € 2 for retirees, students or people with a youth card. Children under 8 years old are free.
