As you all well know by now, Spanair It has ceased its activity due to financial problems. The airline has declared bankruptcy and left everyone with their butts in the air, workers and consumers who are now no ticket.
Overnight Spanair has communicated the news. Most amazing of all, they have been selling tickets until the last minute, as if the decision to close had been made just minutes before the official statement announcing the shutdown. That in my town is called fraud.
I have to admit that I am one of those affected by the closure, I had bought a round trip ticket for the summer holidays and now I am waiting for my money back. What must be done to reimburse the tickets? As you can read on the Spanair page, the following:
They are currently finalizing an agreement with the International Air Transport Association. The agreement will empower travel agencies to refund the full price of the tickets passengers who have paid by bank transfer or in cash at the aforementioned travel agencies.
The rest of the passengers who had paid the ticket by means of a credit card, both directly on the Spanair website and in a travel agency, they must inform their financial institution of the possibilities of reimbursement.
Finally, all affected passengers can file a claim through any of the following channels:
- Spanair sales offices.
- AENA counters located at the corresponding airports.
- Tourist offices of the corresponding airports.
- Catalan Consumer Agency
Anyway, you just have to wait for the refund to be paid as they say, something I doubt very much. Worst of all is that the Generalitat of Catalunya, the largest shareholder of Spanair, does not want to assume any responsibility In all this. Has the company not been financed through citizen taxes? Did they not know that the company was going to collapse, being they the largest shareholders? What country shame, so it goes ...
