Place Vendome in Paris

In Paris There are many places of great interest for all visitors to the city, and the French capital has so much to offer that you could stay there for weeks and still not see everything. One of the most historic and famous corners of the city is the Vendome Square, which is just past the Tuileries Garden on the way to the Opera area.

Its design was commissioned in the late 17th century to the architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the famous architect of Versailles, who at that time already had a great reputation in France. In fact, it was the King Louis XIV whoever wanted this architect to design what was to be the most prestigious square in the city to host the different foreign embassies.

Undoubtedly one of the must-see places, Place Vendome in Paris also currently houses the famous Ritz Hotel, which is why it is also known, and visited, by many tourists. In addition, the buildings that surround it are almost entirely historical monuments, so it is wonderful to take a walk there.

As soon as you get to the square you will find a central column in which the figure of Louis XIV was but that was knocked down by the revolutionaries, so the one that can be seen today was crowned with a statue of napoleon but it was also withdrawn, in this case by the Bourbons, who placed a fleur-de-lis after the defeat at Waterloo and as a symbol of royalty.

This square has an octagonal shape with multiple entrances, and in it you can see other buildings such as the Ministry of Justice, in addition to exclusive jewelers that draw a lot of attention when selling pieces from such important firms as Piguet, Cartier or Chaumet, which is why it is also considered one of the most expensive squares in the city.
