Almería guide

Almeria It is a beautiful Andalusian city that perfectly merges its medieval past with the modernity that exists today. A seaside city where you can find castles mixed with modern buildings, boardwalks, canals, and plenty of sights.

I leave you one Almería short guide so you can organize your trip to this city:

Neighborhoods: In the Historic District and in the Barrio de la Chanca, areas where you can find much of the heritage that the Muslims left in the city. The rest of the city is where you will see the most modern buildings.

Wander: If you like walking around, you have the areas of Las Ramblas, Paseo de Almería or Parque San Nicolás Salmerón. In those places you also have several shops and very interesting architecture.

La Alcazaba Monumental Complex: It is spectacular and one of the tourist attractions of the city. Here you can find cisterns, baths, a Mudejar hermitage, a medina and a Christian compound. It is a must if you are in Almería, especially La Alcazaba, which was built on top of a hill and from there you have spectacular views.

Our Lady of the Incarnation Cathedral: It is a fortress that was built in the 15th century and has a solid and very strong exterior, while its interior is Gothic and Renaissance. A spectacular contrast of styles and nothing to see the interior with what is seen from outside.

Parish of San Juan: It is from the 16th century and is considered the jewel of the city. It was built on the remains of the Great Mosque from the Muslim era and is in the Plaza de las Chafarinas.

Museums: You have very interesting and varied museums, such as the Archaeological Museum, the Antonio Manuel Campoy Museum, the Art Center, the Diocesan Sculpture Museum, the Olive Oil Museum or the Morera Museum of Painting. Also very interesting is the Provincial History Archive where you can see all the ancient history of the province.

Stately homes: They are a very important part in the history of the city and many of them currently house places such as the Cultural Casino, the Cervantes Theater, the House of Music, the Palace of the Viscount of Almansa or the Casa de los Puche.

Archbishop's Palace: It is in front of the cathedral and is a spectacular building with turrets, buttresses and battlements.
