Pamukkale Natural Pools

Located naturally in the valley of the Menderes river to the southwest of Turkey, in the Denizli province, you will find some of the most beautiful and impressive natural pools in the world. The Pamukkale pools -which in Turkish means "cotton castle" - have been finishing forming over the years and have become a great tourist attraction highly recommended to see.

Although its name refers to a castle, it has nothing to do with what it really is. Pamukkale is made up of a set of calcareous formations that over the years have been taking shape, thus generating this curious morphology seen in the photograph. Is a huge geological formation white in color, which has been formed from calcium carbonate generated by calcium precipitation from the hot springs that flow through this place.

These Pamukkale hot springs are very famous all over the world. The turquoise and white pools have become a kind of natural spa. Apparently they have beneficial effects for the skin and the eyes, and is even believed to cure both asthma and all kinds of rheumatism. In the area you can also find various hot springs and natural water sources.

It is a beautiful natural setting and only one in the world -reason for which it was declared a World Heritage Site- on whose top are also the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Hierapolis, and from which you can see one of the most beautiful views in the world.
