Underwater museum in Alexandria

The idea of a museum under the sea seems very simple, but perhaps it is not so much. The palace of Cleopatra sank long ago in the Mediterranean, but visitors from Alexandria, Egypt, you can get to see the complexity of the world of Cleopatra through the existing remains, in the world's first underwater museum.

The place chosen for this curious museum is near the New Library of Alexandria, where the famous queen of Egypt, protected herself from her lover Marco Antonio.
In early September, the United Nations cultural agency, the Unesco, announced that he was financing a team to determine if the project can go ahead.

If built, the museum can display the monuments and treasures of Cleopatra's palace, which were submerged at the bottom of the sea due to earthquakes that took place during the century IV d. from C. The bay is filled with submerged archaeological treasures. During the decade of the 90 a team of archaeologists found a lot of objects: 26 sphinxes, statues that they were gifts to the gods, columns with a maximum weight of 56 tons, and even shipwrecks greeks.

The museum project is designed to fulfill the function of a normal museum but at the same time impact its visitors first by knowing that they are underwater and then by the innumerable and valuable pieces that they will be able to see.

The idea is to create the interior of the museum with a series of tunnels, made in fiberglass, so that visitors enjoy their walk along the seabed. However, the murky waters of the bay could conceal some of the submerged monuments. The museum builders will have to completely clean or replace the water with a artificial lagoon.
