Drug trafficking television series have been very successful in recent years, on both open and paid channels. That yes, above all stands out Narcos, one of the most successful Netflix productions. Without a doubt, the enormous success of the series is due, in large part, to the fascination that people have for the character. Pablo Escobar, who for many years was the most powerful and wanted drug trafficker in the world.

The founder of the Medellín, Colombia cartel, who amassed one of the world's largest fortunes thanks to the cocaine trade, was not only known for his bloody crimes and impressive power, but for his lavish lifestyle. In fact, it had different mansions. Now one of them has become a luxurious hotel. Would you like to discover it? Well join us!

Located in one of the most desired destinations in the Riviera Maya

As we were saying, today we want to tell you about one of the many properties that the king of the Medellín cartel had spread throughout Latin America. Renamed Casa Malca, it is located on the Tulum coast, one of the most desired destinations in the Riviera Maya, which is located on the peninsula of Yucatan, Mexico. And it is that in addition to offering spectacular beaches, it houses some amazing ruins. Now the mansion has been converted into a five-star hotel.

After Escobar's death in 1993, the mansion was abandoned until 2003, when it was rediscovered and returned to its original owner. In 2012 the property was purchased by the art collector Lio Malca, based in New York. It was he who decided to turn the house and the villas around him into a luxury hotel.

Contemporary art, nature and relaxed luxury

The Casa Malca hotel opened in 2015 with 9 rooms, although it now has more than 35. It is located on a private beach, specifically on one of the widest of the endless white sand beaches in this paradise of the Yucatan peninsula. As you can see for yourself by taking a look at the images that we show you in our gallery, the complex combines world-class contemporary art, nature and relaxed luxury.

As we have mentioned before, it has 35 rooms, of which 9 are luxury suites. The most luxurious is the Malca Suite, which has 70 square meters and a private terrace that offers spectacular views of the jungle and the sea.

Public spaces

As for the public spaces of the hotel, they include Mayan themes, natural wood and large windows to get the maximum amount of natural light. For its part, the bursts of color serve to inspire guests and add flavor to their exquisite dishes, made with fresh ingredients from the Yucatan peninsula, selected to create a fusion of contemporary cuisine. Of course, Casa Malca has been decorated with part of the owner's artwork.

Characteristics of a drug dealer's house

One of the things that most attracts the attention of the property is the tunnel that connects the entire complex. In addition, the roof appears to be designed to be able to monitor the surroundings. Without a doubt, these are characteristics that a drug trafficker like Pablo Escobar would need. Of course, the villa was not in his name when it was rediscovered. Then we leave you with our Gallery, where you will find more images of Casa Malca. Do not miss it!
