A great diversity of landscapes and activities

Throughout this year we will have at our disposal 24,000 kilometers of car-free route to explore on foot, by bicycle, on horseback, by boat ... We are referring to The Great Trail, a trail also known as the Trans Canada Trail, considered the longest car-free trail in the world. This is an ambitious project that was launched in 1992 and, fortunately for all lovers of nature, and more specifically, the Canadian sites, will be completed very soon. This path crosses the entire country from east to west, connecting its 13 provinces and offering anyone who dares to explore it a great diversity of landscapes and activities. In fact, it is important to keep in mind that 26% of the route goes through the water, so to complete it you will also have to use means of transport such as boats or kayaking. Of course, along the way you will find rest and refreshment areas.

Thanks to donations

The project was launched by Trans Canada Trail, a non-profit organization that has been able to build this trail thanks to the donations they have been obtaining. In fact, each section is owned by the local organizations, authorities and municipalities through which the path crosses, although there is a national entity that groups and coordinates all the work of chaining. At the moment, the road has 21,500 kilometers of route and 91% of the territory has already been connected. And it must be borne in mind that The Great Trail has been formed from the union of 400 old trails, bicycle lanes and roads, although new routes have also been added, always betting on natural conservation.

Contributes to natural conservation

One fact to keep in mind is that 4 out of 5 Canadians will have the road 30 minutes from their homes. Of course, those of us who live outside this wonderful country will also have the possibility of reaching it through the different airports in Canada, since most of them have great accessibility to the route. In any case, the trail contributes to natural conservation and promotes lifestyles active. In addition, it is important to keep in mind that it allows knowing the culture and history of the country, and creating jobs along the way.
