The importance of recycling during the Camino de Santiago

camino-de-santiago-1
The Camino de Santiago is one of the preferred options for those who like tourism based on contact with nature. A multitude of travelers choose this option since it is an uplifting experience, in which hiking is combined with enjoying the environment. It is therefore very important to keep in mind that in order for us and the other pilgrims to continue enjoying it, it must be preserved. Ecoembes, with the collaboration of the Xunta de Galicia and the Junta de Castilla y León, has reinforced its project aimed at promoting recycling during the Camino de Santiago. This non-profit organization that cares for the environment in Spain through recycling has expanded the scope of this project, which incidentally is known as «Collaboration path. Recycling Path«.

They started in 2015 in Castilla y León, but this year they will also be in Galicia. The objective of the campaign is none other than to make pilgrims aware of the selective collection of packaging on the Camino de Santiago.

Shelters delivered to the cause

For this they have thought of the hostels of the French Way of Castilla y León and Galicia who wanted to be part of the project. In total there are more than 250 collaborators who promote respect for a privileged environment with routes that show us places of unparalleled natural beauty.

All of them have decided to contribute their grain of sand so that the pilgrim experience is as respectful as possible with the environment. For this reason, they found it great that Ecoembes has placed yellow and blue bins, in addition to giving a very practical kit to pilgrims (manual lantern, lanyard and cover so that the accreditation does not get wet) and include very didactic posters to know what to deposit in each of the bins:

- Yellow: Plastic containers, cans and briks.
- Blue: Paper and cardboard containers.

Share your experience in the #EcoPeregrino gallery

By accessing the Ecoembes website, you not only get information about the project, but you can also enjoy the image gallery that they have prepared. You should know that you can also share the photos you take along the way, and you can even win a fantastic experience pack if you do it before September 30. Of course, do not forget to do it through Twitter or Instagram including the hashtag #EcoPeregrino and the one in the province where you have taken the photos (#Burgos, #Lugo, # León, # Palencia ...).

The latter I think is something very beautiful. It is the meeting point for a large group of people who decide to make the journey, sharing landscapes that leave their mark. Landscapes that we can preserve by taking care of the planet, for which it is important to keep in mind the benefits of recycling that they know so well at Ecoembes.
