Egypt is, without a doubt, one of the most spectacular places on the planet. In fact, we could say that it is one of the destinations that everyone should know before dying. With an ancient culture, it offers the traveler numerous points of interest, such as temples, ancient tombs, monuments dedicated to the ancient pharaohs, the amazing Nile, the desert of Cairo ... Of course, what most attracts of this wonderful place are its pyramids, monuments that were built more than 4,000 years ago, that have helped us to know something better about the complex civilization of Ancient Egypt.

There are more than one hundred pyramids that have been found in Egypt, although most of them are in very bad condition. In fact, only some of them are allowed to visit. Pyramids of Giza

How could it be otherwise, we have to start by talking about the Giza Pyramids, the most important monument in the whole country. Located on the Giza plateau, about 18 kilometers from Cairo, they are World Heritage since 1979, in addition to being considered the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that still stands. In this archaeological complex we find the pyramids of Cheops, Kefrén and Micerinos, in addition to other smaller ones, which began to be built around the year 2,550 B.C. The most spectacular is that of Cheops, also called the Great Pyramid of Giza, which although originally measuring 146.61 meters, today has a height of 136.86 meters. You can visit them inside although, unfortunately, you will not find much inside.

Zoser's Step Pyramid

Another pyramid that receives the visit of many tourists is the so-called Step Pyramid of Zoser, which formerly received the name of Dyeser Desyeseru, which means "the most sacred". Without a doubt, it is the most important construction of the necropolis of Saqqara, which is located south of the city of Memphis, among other things because it is the oldest pyramid in Egypt. Apparently, it was the prototype of all Egyptian pyramids. In fact, it is the oldest of all, in addition to being considered the oldest stone construction on the planet. In the complex you can also find the Temple of the Three Fluted Columns, the chapels of the Fiesta Sed, the Casa del Sur, the Casa del Norte, the Serdab, a funerary temple and a large moat.

Red pyramid

The Red Pyramid, located in the town of Dahshur, could not be missing from this list. Although its name is due to the color of the stone with which it was built, the truth is that, like other pyramids in Egypt, it was originally covered with blocks of stone white limestone. The pyramid surprises with its dimensions. In fact, it is considered the third largest pyramid in the country, in addition to being the first with smooth faces. The pyramid is part of the Dahshur archaeological site, where the Layered Pyramid is also located, which we will talk about below.

Finally, we want to tell you about the Layered Pyramid, also known as the Rhomboidal Pyramid or the South Dahshur Pyramid. It is located about 40 kilometers south of Cairo and is the only one with this shape in all of Egypt. Apparently, it was thought in a different way than what can be seen today. In fact, everything points to this being an exercise in experimentation in the shape of the pyramid. It also stands out for being the pyramid that best preserves the coating.
