La Pardina del Señor, one of the most spectacular forests in Europe

La Pardina del Senor Huesca
It seems like a lie, but the end of autumn is just around the corner. However, we still have a few weeks to enjoy one of the best things to do at this time of year: visit the forests. And it is that during the autumn months these places acquire unique shades and become truly magical spaces. For this reason, we encourage you to take advantage of the last days of the season for excursions into nature.

El Hayedo de Montejo, Selva de Irati or Fageda d’en Jordà are just some of the many Spanish forests that we have already shown you in Hard Hobbit To Break, but our country hides many more samples of these special natural corners. Today, for example, we travel to Huesca to discover what is considered by many to be one of the best forests in the entire country. We are referring to The Lord's Pardina from Fanlo. Do you want to discover this natural place more fully? Well you know what you have to do! Do not miss anything we tell you below!

Location

As we were telling you, today in Hard Hobbit To Break we are going to talk about the Pardina del Señor forest, also known as Pardina Ballarín or the Forest of Fanlo, since it is found in this town belonging to the Sobrarbe region, in the province of Huesca. It is one of the most uninhabited municipalities in the entire region. Specifically, the forest is located on the road that connects Fanlo with Sarvisé.

Forest flora

Considered by many as the most spectacular forest in Spain and even in Europe, the Pardina del Señor is home to a large number of tree species, among which firs, beech, maple, poplar, ash, cherry and birches. The best thing is that the majority of species present in this area are expired, so during the autumn weeks the forest acquires a large amount of shades. Therefore, this time of year is the best to visit it. It is important to keep in mind that until the 1950s the forest was dedicated to agricultural-livestock exploitation but, surprisingly, it has recovered in a very short time.

Trekking

The best way to discover this magical forest is by taking the stage of the GR-15 trail that connects the Vio / Ballibió valley with the Broto Valley. It was inaugurated a few months ago and takes advantage of an old path drawn up on the right bank of the Chate ravine. The route starts about 700 meters before reaching Fanlo, on the road Fanlo-Savisé. In its first section, which is located within the municipal district of Fanlo, hikers will be able to enjoy the forest until they reach the remains of the Pardina Ballarín (it is important to keep in mind that the forest is privately owned, so you should not leave of the marked trail). From that point, after leaving the beech forest, a path begins that goes into Broto, passing the San Estebán huts and the Bath fountain, which is a medicinal water spring that was once very popular. After passing the Virgen del Bun hermitage, the path enters Buesta, crossing its town center and obtaining magnificent views of the Ara Valley. From here, the trail connects with the Camino de Herradura, which goes towards Broto. With a distance of 18.6 kilometers, the route takes 5 hours and 45 minutes.
