An archipelago made up of six islands
Considered one of the most beautiful corners of Africa, the Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of six islands that is located near the city of Vilankulo, in Mozambique. In addition to Bazaruto, the main island, it is made up of Benguerra, Magaruque, Banque, Santa Carolina and Shell. In addition, the archipelago is made up of many other islets that in many cases are only seen at low tide. This natural wonder became a National Park in 1971 and since then it has only gained in popularity.
The great attraction of the Bazaruto Archipelago
As you could have imagined from the images that we have shown you so far (you can enjoy more photographs in our gallery), the great attraction of this archipelago is its coastline, where you can find truly paradisiacal beaches, with completely crystalline, white sands and a tremendously rich seabed. The curious thing is that although the country was in civil war for more than 16 years and was devastated by hard floods in 2007, Bazaruto has remained isolated from the misfortunes. In addition, it remains practically virgin despite already having numerous resorts and lodges. The good thing is that they have a sustainable spirit.
Activities to do in Bazaruto
One of the activities that you will most like to do in this African paradise will be roasting in the sun contemplating the landscape. However, you should know that here you can enjoy numerous activities. For example, both the snorkel like diving they are tremendously worth it. In fact, the so-called Bazaruto Marine Park or Bazaruto National Park offers in its 1,400 square kilometers an important reserve. It is considered to be the largest in the entire Indian Ocean. In addition, you can practice deep sea fishing, water skiing, sailing and many other water sports.
Wildlife
Contemplating the fauna of the archipelago is, without a doubt, one of the best things you can do in this place. Among the animals that you can see are freshwater crocodiles, monkeys, mangrove crabs or small antelopes. As for birds, flamingos or eagles predominate, among many other species. Within the sea you will be able to see dolphins, sharks, stingrays, turtles and, of course, Whales humpbacked. Of course, if you want to bathe with the whale shark, which is the largest mammal on the planet, you must travel in the wet season, that is, from November to April.
