Inside the Urdaibai Biosphere ReserveIbarrola painted different figures on the pines in striking colors, resulting in a true painting within the forest and an even more vivid nature. Do you want to know more details about this wonder of the Basque Country? Well then we give you all the details and we show you some amazing photos.

Human figures, animals and geometric shapes

Near the Biscayan town of Kortezubi is this painted forest that Ibarrola made by painting in the logs of the trees human figures, animals and geometric shapes, some of which are only visible from certain positions, since the images of different trunks form a joint image. To be clear from where you have to observe the “canvas”, arrows are placed on the floor. In total, the forest has 47 painted figures.

Like in an enchanted forest

The author wanted to unite the technique that in the Paleolithic they used to paint on the rock with a modern current called land art, which consists of working on nature. As you can see in the images, the result is incredible: spots of color that form figures, eyes and rainbows along the route that will make you feel like in an enchanted forest. What the painter and sculptor intended was to conceive the Oma Forest as a sample of the relationship between nature and human presence.

Adapted for the deaf

The tour can be done on foot, by bicycle, with the dog and has even been adapted so that deaf people can interpret the itinerary (with sign guides) but not for disabled or baby carriages.
