The Aeolian or Aeolian Islands constitute a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea, near the northeast coast of Sicily, made up of seven main islands: Lipari (the capital) with its 10,500 inhabitants is the most important and the widest, Stromboli a 900 meter volcano, still giving off fiery lava, is the only active volcano in Europe along with Etna in Sicily and Vulcano It is a volcano 391 meters high and its crater (500 meters in diameter) still emits some fumaroles, Alicudi, Filicudi, Panarea Y Saline.

World Heritage

Nowadays, the islands are a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 2000, for the wealth of its ecosystems and the beauty of its landscapes, preserved in some places and altered by others due to uncontrolled tourist construction.

To get to Aeolian We can start from both peninsular Italy and from Sicily, that is, from Reggio Calabria or Naples, or from Messina and Milazzo through boats or ferries (traguetti), whose frequency increases in summer, even departing from Palermo and Cefalu.

The tourists they come to the Aeolian Islands, attracted by the incandescent lava of Stromboli, the flirtation of Lípari, the boat rides of Panarea, the sight of the sulfur slopes of Vulcano, or the Filicudi cliffs.
