The Gold Tower in Seville

One of the most beautiful cities in our country is Seville, which makes the famous saying "Seville has a special color" real, since in the Andalusian city everything shines and it seems that you breathe a different air. Today I would like to tell you about what is probably the most famous monument in the city next to the famous Giralda: the tower of Gold, one of the best samples that there is in our country of Arab military architecture and that when it was occupied by the Arabs, it became one of the defensive standards of the area.

From there, the access and transit of ships coming and going through the waters of the Guadalquivir river They were ideal towers to offer assistance fire when necessary and help isolate enemy ships. The Seville Gold Tower has a height of 36 meters and it consists of 3 bodies, one of them cylindrical in the upper part and 2 dodecagonal bases. The staircase that it has works as an axis in this fantastic and traditional defensive structure.

It is a wonderful reflection of the artistic and political activity that the city suffered throughout its history, its base being a fantastic example of Almohad architecture while the center is Mudejar art, specifically the one that belongs to the end of the 14th century. The final section is characteristic of eighteenth-century architecture, so on an architectural level it is a true wonder for the eyes thanks to the great combination of styles.

The Torre del Oro, which is on the banks of the Guadalquivir, on Betis street, after the reconquest of the city became a chapel dedicated to San Isidoro, being used as a prison in subsequent years. Today it houses the Seville Naval Museum so it is one of the must see if you are going to be in the city. Finally, it should be noted that after a strong earthquake in Lisbon in 1775 it was affected with severe damage in several parts and had to be restored.
