Throughout history the human being has been building bridges to overcome all kinds of geographic features: rivers, canyons, valleys, highways ... Of course, the bridges of today with which they were built centuries ago have nothing to do. For example, it is believed that in prehistoric times these structures were similar to the suspension bridges made of herbs and a network of lianas that can be found today in the Amazon jungle. Architects and engineers currently have advanced technologies that allow them to create impressive structures. For example, a few months ago we showed you the new 1812 Cádiz Constitution Bridge, a milestone in Spanish engineering.
Today we move to China to discover another impressive structure. We are referring to Beipanjiang, considered the highest bridge in the world. Would you like to discover it? Well, you just have to join us!
At 565 meters high
China has just completed construction of what is considered to be the tallest bridge in the world. And it is that this construction is located 565 meters high. Specifically, the Beipanjiang Bridge is located over the river canyon Nizhu, in Guizhou, and aims to connect this province with that of Yunman. It took three years and a thousand engineers and technicians to carry it out. Of course, although the structure is already built, its opening will not take place until the end of this year. At least, that is what they have reported from the CCTV television network. Until now the title of "world's highest bridge" was held by another Chinese structure. We refer to the Sidu Bridge, which is located in the central province of Hubei. It opened in 2009 and is located 496 meters above the Sidu river valley.
It is also surprising for its length
The Beipanjiang Bridge, which began construction in early 2013, has cost just over $ 150 million. As you can see for yourself by taking a look at the images that we show you in our gallery, it is not only surprising for its height, which is comparable to that of a 200-story building, but for its length. And it is that the structure measures 1,342 meters. As you can imagine, the construction process has been quite complex. Therefore, it is also surprising that they have completed it in just 3 years. The objective of this and other Guizhou constructions, such as the highest railway bridge in the world (it is 275 meters above sea level), is to improve the viability of this mountainous area.
The longest glass bridge in the world
Surprisingly, just a few days ago the Asian country presented another impressive structure that has surprised everyone. We are referring to the tallest and longest glass bridge in the world. It is a construction 430 meters long and 300 meters high that has only been open for a few weeks. Located in the Zhangjiajie Mountains, it has had to be temporarily closed due to an avalanche of visitors. And, although the number of visits should be limited to 8,000 people a day, it was receiving more than 10,000 people a day. Thus, the managers have decided to improve the internal system of the bridge. You can see it in the image that we show you below.
Then we leave you with our Gallery, where you will find more images of the highest bridge in the world and its construction process. Do not miss it!
