Cultural visit to Potsdam


The "pearl" of Brandenburg only remains 30km. southwest of Berlin and represents one of the most beautiful cultural countries in Germany. Over a period of more than 300 years, the best artists embellished under the order of the dynasty sovereigns Hohenzollern their residences with wonderful parks and gardens. Because of that, Potsdam was named cultural monument of humanity of the natural and cultural heritage of the Unesco in 1990.

Potsdam is today a city with some 150 000 inhabitants and the capital of Federal State of Brandenburg. The best known of the city is the private refuge of Frederick II; "Sanssouci" a summer palace built in 1745 on a vineyard. The palace is a small gem from the Rococo era, as is the palace intended for its guests. "The New Chambers”Which is located just to the west of Sanssouci.


Hidden in the foliage of the park, about 2 km. to the west is the “New Palace”. It is a great building of the century XVIII, intended for state visits and accommodation for relatives of Frederick II in the spring-summer months. Near the Sanssouci park we also find the summer palace “Orangery”A picturesque picturesque greenhouse-mansion.


Another curiosity worth seeing and that pursues the same Italian style is a hacienda, some 8 minutes walk from the main entrance to Sanssouci: Krongut Bornstedt, built between 1799-1867, was inhabited and administered by the crown princes Frederick William of Prussia and his wife, the princess VictoryQueen's firstborn England and Ireland victory.
