Castles in Scotland

Scotland is a spectacular country where you have real wonders to visit, be it cities, small towns, gardens, mountains or buildings. Among all those places I would like to highlight the Scottish castles, one of its great tourist attractions and which are located almost all of them in a spectacular natural environment with great beauty.

Lots of history in each of them, plus impressive gardens that in summer they shine more than ever thanks to the number of trees and flowers around them. Below I detail some of the most important:

Dirleton Castle: It is a spectacular medieval fortress that is close to Edinburgh. It has Victorian gardens and ancient yews.

Kellie's Castle: It is from the 17th century and was restored in the Victorian era. It has a large walled garden.

Blair Castle: Residence of the Dukes of Atholi, there you can see antique furniture and weapons, as well as many trees of different species in the garden.

Menzies Castle: It is a fortress in the form of a zeta and typically Scottish. It was restored in the 16th century.

Brodick castle: This castle is from the Viking era and in it you can see large collections of silver, porcelain and painting. Its gardens are spectacular.

Traquair House: It is one of the oldest and still inhabited. Among its walls lived, among others, 27 Scottish monarchs.

Scone Palace: Here they crowned the first kings of Scotland. It has a very important collection of porcelains, furniture and watches.

Eilean Donan Castle: One of the most impressive and with a better landscape around it. It is on an islet in the Duich estuary and can only be reached by boat or via a small bridge that connects the island with the lake.

Floors Castle: Currently it is a large luxury mansion that houses important collections of art, porcelain or tapestries. The dukes of Roxburghe live there.
