Although we have never cared for it as it deserves, our planet continues to host wonderful corners: incredible geysers, spectacular beaches, most colorful rock formations, stunning deserts, towering mountains ... One of the countries that houses the most wonders is U.S, among other things because it is also one of the largest.

One of the most beautiful natural places in the most powerful country in the world is the Bryce Canyon National Park, which is located in the southwestern state of Utah. Of course, although it has this name, the truth is that it is not a canyon, but a great natural amphitheater. Would you like to discover this American corner in more depth? Well you know what you have to do! Do not miss anything we tell you below!

Amazing pinnacles

Bryce Canyon National Park surprises, among other things, by the height of its rocky pinnacles, which range from 2,400 to 2,700 meters. Of course, their shapes are also striking. And we are talking about formations grotesque, chilling and, of course, enigmatic, which are known as "Fairy Chimneys" or Hoodoos, a name derived from voodoo that means "bad luck".

Geological value

As you can imagine, it is a territory of great geological value. In fact, it houses depositions since the last part of Cretaceous. In addition, beyond the pinnacles, you can find arches, needles, caves, windows, natural bridges ... On the other hand, it is important to note that this place was not formed by the continuous action of a stream of water, as occurs in the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, but by small water currents that filter between the fractures of the rock. With the drop in temperatures, the water freezes and expands those bills. Of course, the rain has also played an important role. In fact, over time, he has modeled the limestone that forms part of the edges of the chimneys. As for the reddish color, it is due to iron oxygen.

Flora and fauna

In Bryce Canyon National Park you can find different animals, highlighting birds, foxes, cougars, black bears and deer. Separate mention deserve eagles, crows and owls, species that do not emigrate in winter. As for the flora, you will discover pine forests, conifers, firs, redwoods, lichens, mushrooms ...

Trekking

The most common way to visit the park is through a 29-kilometer road that runs through the 13 viewpoints above the amphitheatres. Of course, if you like trekkingYou can also choose to go to any of the 8 limited and maintained trails that the park offers. Some of these trails intersect, so walkers can change paths on the go. In addition, you should know that in some there are areas enabled to spend the night, although to stay up late you need a camping permit. There is also the option of sleeping in camps or in a hostel. On the other hand, it is important to keep in mind that the park offers 16 kilometers of ski slopes. You should also know that it is one of the best places in the United States to gaze at the stars.

Open all year long

Finally, we want to comment that, although the park is open 24 hours a day throughout the year, in winter there may be temporary road closures. It is also possible that in specific areas of the road there will be short cuts for maintenance during the rest of the year. Then we leave you with our Gallery, where you will find more images of this spectacular natural site located in the United States. Do not miss it!
