The Monserrate Palace, in the Portuguese city of SintraIt is one of the most beautiful you can find in the entire country. It is only 30 kilometers from Lisbon, so it is an ideal place to visit if you are going to spend a few days in the capital. One of the most impressive architectural buildings in history and inside you can also enjoy beautiful nature.
Its decoration both outside and inside is spectacular and will take you back to the time of the fairytale palaces thanks to the magic that emerges from every corner. One of the best things you have Monserrate is that since it is not as famous as other Sintra buildings, it is not as crowded as the rest of the people. Still, it is advisable to go when they open in order to make the visit easier.
Botanical Garden
The most striking thing about this palace is that it has a spectacular botanical garden inside, which houses more than 2,500 species of trees, shrubs and plants. This garden is as soon as you enter the palace and is divided into several areas where you can find different plants, flowers, trees, springs, roads and even some caves. It is one of the most picturesque and beautiful gardens in Portugal.
Its interior
When you cross the gardens you come to an esplanade that is covered with grass and is the first one to be planted in the entire country. This esplanade leads to the interior of the palace, where you can take a guided tour to learn the most interesting details. Built in the mid XIX century, its architecture is impressive, so it is worth visiting each of its corners.
Hours and tickets
It is at outskirts of sintra but it is certainly worth visiting for various reasons. You can visit it from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from May 1 to September 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in summer and from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. the rest of the year. The time limit to enter is one hour before closing, and admission costs 5 euros.
