The gothic quarter of Barcelona

Barcelona It is an exciting city where you can find a lot of interesting places. A place where architecture is very important, showing itself in different styles and forms depending on which neighborhood in the city you are in. One of the most striking and beautiful areas of the city is the Gothic Quarter, being also one of the most important neighborhoods since it contains the town hall and the Generalitat, specifically in Plaça de Sant Jaume.

Today I would like to write about the gothic quarter Barcelona and the most interesting thing you can find in it, those corners that you have to visit yes or yes if you are going to be in the city.

Carrer del Bisbe

It is a beautiful neo-Gothic style bridge that crosses the Plaça de Garriga i Bachs, thus linking the Palau de la Generalitat with the Canonges House, which is the official residence of the President. In this carrer there is also the Puerta de Santa Eulàlia, which takes you directly to the cloister of the Cathedral.

Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia

It was built on the old Romanesque cathedral, which in turn was built on old early Christian and Visigothic temples. Construction began in 1298, although its exterior facade was not erected until 1888, on the occasion of the Barcelona Expo and after 400 years had passed with virtually no progress. It is from eneo-gothic style and it has 5 doors, towers, stained glass, gargoyles, chapels, a high altar, a Chapter Hall and the crypt of Santa Eulalia, among other things.

Greater Royal Palace

It is in Plaça del Rei and houses the City History Museum, in which you can discover priceless treasures. During the tour you will know what happened in Barcelona in times of the Iberian settlement or what its golden age was like when it was the port capital of the Crown of Aragon. This palace has 3 buildings: the Tinell Hall (where Columbus was received by the Catholic Monarchs after his first trip to America), the Palatine Chapel of Santa Ágata and the Lieutenant's Palace.

Plaça del Pi

It is a beautiful square with magnificent architecture and is presided over by a Gothic church that has a beautiful octagonal tower. There you will find a jumble sale, terraces or street artists.
