The best museums in Madrid


Yesterday I wrote an article with some of the most interesting museums in Paris and today I would like to do the same but with those of Madrid, one of the most interesting cities in our country and that is definitely worth visiting several times to discover it little by little. Among the many attractions that you can find in the capital, culture and art take the cake thanks to spectacular museums that offer some of the most prestigious works in the world.

Madrid has about 50 museums, which shows the importance that art and culture have in that city. In them you can discover some of the best works by painters like Dalí, Miró, Rubens, Picasso, Goya, Velázquez or El Greco. A true wonder that you can discover with discounts and even free on specific days. These are the best museums in Madrid:

Prado Museum


It houses one of the best collections of European art from the 12th to the 19th century. A museum of must visit in which there are several permanent marriages and where some temporary ones are also organized. It opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., closing only on Mondays and on December 25, January 1, Good Friday and May 1. If you go by metro you must get off at Banco de España or Atocha stations.

Reina Sofia Museum


Open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Closed on Tuesdays. The official name of this museum is the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and it exhibits works from the 20th century, both paintings and sculptures. Its interior is wonderful since it has a small park with benches. There you will see, among other works, the famous Guernica.


Thyssen museum


This museum was born to expose the private collections of the baron thyssen and today it is one of the most important in the city. It has collections of important artists of different genres. Open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

CaixaForum Madrid


Open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is a cultural center that is in the historical Center from the city, very close to the 3 previous museums. There you will find not only many exhibitions but also various cultural activities.

National Archaeological Museum


It is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sundays and holidays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Closed on Mondays. Among its exposed content you will see elements of great archaeological value obtained in excavations throughout the country, in addition to collections of ceramics and coins from different periods.
