Know Kumarakom


Kumarakom It is located 16 km from the city of Kottayam. The Kumarakom village is a collection of small islands in Lake Vembanad, and is part of the Kuttanad region. You can visit the bird sanctuary here, which stretches across 14 hectares and is the favorite place of the migratory birds and the paradise of any ornithologist. Egrets, herons, teals, waterfowl, cuckoos, wild ducks, and migratory birds like the Siberian stork visit the area to impress visitors.

The area is a backwater of enchanting peace. It offers the visitor many leisure options. The closest train station is in Kottayam, about 16 km away, and Cochin International Airport is located about 76 km from the city of Kottayam. When you arrive, you can view a labyrinth of brilliant waters among which the mangrove forests are distributed. The coconut trees act as retaining walls.

Every year more than seven million tourists visit Kumarakom, a place that National Geographic magazine has described as one of the places to see once in a lifetime. Kumarakom is an important stop for most of these tourists. This resort is famous for its group of islands on the eastern shores of Lake Vembanad.

Compared to neighboring towns, the lake it has its maximum length and width near Kumarakom (about eight kilometers). With the huge lake on one side and a network of canals running through it, Kumarakom is a man-made masterpiece and the nature altogether it enjoys a unique position in the area.
