Barbate


Between Vejer de la Frontera Y Rate, in the heart of the Cádiz region of The Janda, there is a nice town called Barbate.

Scenario of historical events such as Battle of Trafalgar, this Cadiz town sits on land formerly populated by Phoenicians (who implemented the traditional Almadraba fishing system that is still preserved), Carthaginians and Romans, becoming an important center of production and export of "garum”, Sauce made from fish.

The natural environment of Barbate is marked by a place of great ecological value, the La Breña Natural Park and the Barbate river marshes, which extend over 5077 hectares. The natural park is formed by the wide pine forest of La Breña and a large cliff extends from the beach of La Hierbabuena to Los Caños de Meca.
The Marshes are characterized by being of vital importance for the transit of migratory birds.


With 25 km. Coast and an exceptional climate, Barbate becomes a true paradise for sun and beach lovers. Along its coastline there are many wild sands such as Mangueta located on the cliffs of Barbate. Of course, there are also plenty of sandy areas fully equipped with all the services such as the extensive beach of Zahara of the tunas wave Carmen beach, highly appreciated by water sports fans.
Regarding its gastronomy, fish, mainly squid, anchovies and tuna from trapped are the traditional elements of Barbatean cuisine, where one of the best wets from Spain, made naturally with the best tuna, in addition to other preserves and salted meats.
